Still Wonder: dolce far niente?
The pandemic has forced us to consider the end and beginning of two eras—the end of life on overdrive and the beginning of a still wonder approach to life.
This set of six images encompasses the beginning of a personal exploration of the still in-between moments that often go unnoticed and unappreciated. The long quarantine at home forced me to grapple with many moments of rest and reflection. As such, I chose to augment and recreate these scenes under the spotlight of my camera lens for this final set. This gallery is also a reflection of a growing sense of control in my work, as I learned to capture fleeting moments in curated spaces under different light equipment.
Inspired by fashion editorial works and Horst P Horst’s wonderful monochromatic portraits, I chose to stylistically approach this project by both symbolically and physically glamorizing the moments that transformed me during the pandemic. The use of flash to create stark lines and shadows allowed me to better depict the sensation of “spotlighting” intimate moments.
